Claremont Court enjoys a butterfly releasing ceremony

Residents at Claremont Court care home gather together to release butterflies.

Claremont Court care home in Guildford, part of Carebase, a group of private care homes in the South East and East Anglia, specialising in nursing, residential and dementia care, celebrated a special event last week.

Several of the residents at the home had been nurturing caterpillars for the last couple of weeks waiting for them to become butterflies. It was a great way to engage the residents in something that they really enjoyed.  They ensured a good supply of leaves for the caterpillars before they became chrysalises and once the butterflies had emerged, they picked flowers and chopped fruit for their food and enjoyed the beauty of their colours.

Last week the residents gathered together to release the butterflies into the sky after taking some time to hold and admire them one last time. Residents Norah, Peggy, John, Dorothy, Mary and Pauline were involved in releasing the butterflies and it was a very special occasion to see them flutter away.

Claremont Court has a very full activities calendar for its residents and is constantly thinking of ways to add to the interesting and fulfilling list of things to do. The residents enjoyed the process so much that they have requested more caterpillars so even more residents can get involved.
